Questions

What costs do people forget when moving?

The upfront costs at the new place: first month’s rent, a security deposit, application or broker fees, utility deposits and setup, and paying for two places at once if the dates overlap. They often add up to more than the move itself.

How much buffer should I add?

Ten percent is a common cushion for surprises like an extra truck day, a parking permit nobody mentioned or cleaning fees. Use more for long-distance moves.

Should I get moving quotes?

Yes. Prices vary a lot by distance, season and how much you own, so two or three quotes beat any average.
